Please be aware that editing audio and video files can be resource-intensive; if you have an older smartphone without much memory or a Chromebook laptop, be prepared to go to a campus computer lab to do the work, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.uci.edu\/laptops-and-ipads\">borrow a laptop from the library<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><i class=\"fa fa-hand-pointer-o\"><!-- icon --><\/i> Presentation apps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Google Slides (in Google Drive)<br \/>\n-easy collaboration, embedding of videos hosted on Google Drive or YouTube, options for transitions and animation. See <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/docs\/answer\/1696787?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&amp;hl=en\">information on presenting with Google Slides<\/a>, including setting automated, timed slide advance.<\/p>\n<p>To record a screencast video of slides or other visuals plus your narration:<br \/>\nQuickTime Player for Mac, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maketecheasier.com\/create-screencasts-windows10\/\">Xbox App<\/a> in Windows 10, or <a href=\"https:\/\/obsproject.com\/\">OBS Studio<\/a> for Windows<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft PowerPoint<br \/>\n-many themes, easy editing, not-so-reliable embedding of videos, some options for transitions and animation. See <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/record-a-slide-show-with-narration-and-slide-timings-0b9502c6-5f6c-40ae-b1e7-e47d8741161c\">information on presenting with PowerPoint<\/a>, including recording a slide show with narration and timing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/keynote\/\">Apple Keynote<\/a><br \/>\n-extensive design options, including transitions and animation; files can be exported as .pptx; also available as an iCloud app<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/prezi.com\/\">Prezi<\/a>: for nonlinear presentations with motion (can be slow to load, offers <del>a free edu account to students<\/del> only a very basic account for free)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/spark.adobe.com\">Adobe Spark<\/a> platform (free option): Make a webpage, video, or slideshow<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/hakimel\/reveal.js\">Reveal.js<\/a>: Framework for creating HTML presentations (requires some coding knowledge)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/new\">Google Sites<\/a>\u00a0in UCI Google Apps: Allows you to create and selectively share a webpage with embedded elements, for example a set of Google Slides or other media hosted on Google Drive<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><i class=\"fa fa-microphone\"><!-- icon --><\/i> Mobile devices and audio recording apps<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On iOS: Voice Memos. Can perform simple editing. Note that the default file format is M4A.<\/p>\n<p>For Android phones: Sony <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.sonymobile.androidapp.audiorecorder\">Audio Recorder<\/a> or Green Apple Studio <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.app.studio.voicerecord\">Voice Recorder<\/a><\/p>\n<p>FaceTime calls on a Mac can be recorded using QuickTime Player. <a href=\"https:\/\/obsproject.com\/\">OBS Studio<\/a> (for Mac, Windows, or Linux) offers many options for video and audio capturing and mixing.<strong> NB: According to California law, you must get consent from all parties to a phone call before you record a phone call.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Video cameras and compact digital sound recorders may be checked out from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.uci.edu\/mrc\/av-equipment\">Multimedia Resources Center<\/a> (ground floor of the Science Library)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><i class=\"fa fa-signal\"><!-- icon --><\/i> Audio editing and mixing apps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.audacityteam.org\/\">Audacity<\/a>: Free, open source software available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The <a href=\"http:\/\/manual.audacityteam.org\/index.html\">manual<\/a> includes <a href=\"http:\/\/manual.audacityteam.org\/man\/tutorials.html\">tutorials<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/garageband\">GarageBand<\/a> for Mac and iOS<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/obsproject.com\/\">OBS Studio<\/a> for Windows, Mac, and Linux<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><i class=\"fa fa-tv\"><!-- icon --><\/i> Video editing apps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/help.apple.com\/imovie\/mac\/10.1\/\">iMovie on Mac<\/a>\/iPad\/<a href=\"https:\/\/help.apple.com\/imovie\/iphone\/2.2\/\">iPhone<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.wondershare.filmorago&amp;hl=en\">FilmoraGo<\/a> for Android<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/17205\">Photos app<\/a> in Windows 10 + Creator\u2019s Update<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackmagicdesign.com\/products\/davinciresolve\/\">DaVinci Resolve<\/a> for Windows<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><i class=\"fa fa-paint-brush\"><!-- icon --><\/i> Image editing apps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>iPhoto or Windows Photos app<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pixlr.com\">Pixlr<\/a> online (also works with Google Drive)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gimp.org\/\">GIMP<\/a> Gnu Image Manipulation Program (Photoshop alternative)<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><i class=\"fa fa-share-square\"><!-- icon --><\/i> Online sharing and file formats<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Audio in the MP3 file format and video in the MP4 file format (container) should be playable by most everyone (though compression in these formats is lossy). <strong>Before sharing any material online, you must confirm that you have the proper consent of every person involved!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/drive.google.com\/a\/uci.edu\">Google Drive in UCI Google Apps<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For storing, selectively sharing, and playing audio or video files.<\/li>\n<li>Audio file formats supported for playback: MP3, MPEG, WAV, OGG.<\/li>\n<li>Video file formats supported for playback: MPEG4, MOV, and more. For encoding settings, see <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/drive\/answer\/2423694\">https:\/\/support.google.com\/drive\/answer\/2423694<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Note that captions for a video in Google Drive must be added as a separate track.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/new\">Google Sites in UCI Google Apps<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Easily display\/embed media stored in Google Drive<\/li>\n<li>Viewing of Sites can be restricted to selected UCI users<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/eee.canvas.uci.edu\/\">EEE Canvas<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students may upload media files to their user accounts or as assignment submissions in EEE Canvas.<\/li>\n<li>Audio file formats supported for playback: MP3 and more.<\/li>\n<li>Video file formats supported for playback: M4V, MOV, MP4, and more. Video file formats supported include MP4 and MOV. See <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/youtube\/answer\/1722171\">https:\/\/support.google.com\/youtube\/answer\/1722171<\/a> for recommended encoding settings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><i class=\"fa fa-quote-right\"><!-- icon --><\/i> Transcriptions, Transcripts, and Captions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To ensure accessibility of audio and video, you should provide transcripts of edited audio and transcripts or captions for video.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube can <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/youtube\/answer\/2734796\">auto-sync your transcript text<\/a> to your video to create closed captions or subtitles.
